Overview:

Provides reference services to and facilitates access for Research Library patrons as a member of the Reference team. Researches and answers complex and specialized reference questions regarding the Library’s collections, including published materials, archives, photographs, etc. Delivers images and assesses rights as needed. Staffs the Reference Desk for 8-10 hrs/wk. Conducts orientations/presentations about the Library and its collections; develops online tools and research guides. Applies creative solutions while assisting in developing practices and procedures which use current and emerging technologies. Participates in library collection development and bibliographic projects. Other responsibilities as assigned.

Responsibilities:

*Applies knowledge of reference procedures and practices to assignments of moderate complexity
*Performs research and reference functions required to respond to questions and requests of moderate complexity
*Serves as a resource to scholars and staff and may recommend strategies for research
*May support more than one reference specialty or function
*May mentor Library support staff and occasionally provide mentoring and guidance to temporary or project staff

Qualifications:

*Bachelor’s degree in Art History or related discipline required; solid research background in art history or related discipline with M.A. preferred
*M.L.I.S. from an ALA-accredited library school strongly preferred
*2-3 years library experience with at least 2 years in reference
*Reading knowledge of 2 Western European languages
*Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with a wide range of staff and patrons, organizational skills, positive attitude, flexibility/ability to react quickly to change and ability to accept/create new opportunities and challenges essential
