Working under regular supervision and reporting to the Visual Materials Project Cataloger, creates and updates descriptive metadata for the Jay T. Last Collection of Lithographic and Social History and complementary materials in the prints and ephemera collections held by the library; assists the Jay T. Last Curator and Assistant Curator in the physical management of collections as directed. Essential Functions: Assist in processing the Jay T. Last Collection and related materials in accordance with accepted national standards for sorting, arranging, listing, and describing prints, ephemera, and other visual materials. Create, update, and maintain item-level metadata records for visual materials. Perform catalog support functions such as searching print and online sources, inputting, correcting, and producing metadata in online databases and EAD finding aids. Provide support to the Jay T. Last Curator and Assistant Curator in the initial processing, rehousing, and physical management of the collections, as needed. Help select and prepare images from the collection for scanning. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications: Familiarity with institutional cataloging conventions for visual materials. This skill may be obtained through on-the-job training. Accurate, detail-oriented clerical skills which may be obtained through completion of an Associate of Arts or higher degree. Proficiency in the use of computers required; familiarity with database programs such as FileMaker Pro and digital file management systems such as CONTENTdm preferred. Ability to communicate clearly and to understand and follow written and oral instruction. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment. Ability to meet production goals according to grant schedule. Minimum one year work experience in an office environment required. Experience working in a library technical services department preferred. The Huntington Art Collections is comprised of approximately 40,000 works of European art from the 15th to the early 20th century and American art from the late 17th to the mid-20th century in all media. The European collections are displayed in the Huntington Art Gallery, the original Huntington residence. American art is on view in the Virginia Steele Scott Galleries of American Art. Temporary exhibitions are presented in the MaryLou and George Boone Gallery. Smaller temporary displays are mounted in the Works on Paper room of the Huntington Art Gallery and in the Chandler Wing of the Scott Gallery. The Library Collection enjoys an international reputation for its rare books, manuscripts, photographs, and other primary materials supporting original scholarly research in Anglo-American history, literature, and art, the history of science and technology, the history of the book, and the history of exploration and cartography.
