The Department of Art/Ben Shahn Galleries, in the College of Arts and Communication, William Paterson University of NJ, seeks a Curator of Visual Resources Collection. This twelve-month position reports to the Gallery Director.
The curator is responsible for the organization, development, and day-to-day operations of the Visual Resources Collection. The selected candidate will facilitate access to digital images for faculty courses; collaborate with faculty in policy-making and long range planning to ensure that the collection supports academic programs; maintain and grow the current digital collection; and oversee and supervise the use of new imaging technologies. Additional responsibilities include researching, recommending and implementing new archiving software; teaching digital image usage workshops to faculty and students; and training and supervising student and/or graduate assistants.
Minimum requirements: A Master’s degree in art history or museum studies, or MLS with graduate level coursework in art history or equivalent is required. Additional requirements include three (3) years supervised work experience in visual resource collection; demonstrated experience in user interface configuration and development, relational database information systems and digital collection or image management systems. Proficiency in both PC and Mac platforms and knowledge of image and slide scanning, document and archiving software and hardware is necessary. Demonstrated managerial, interpersonal and communication skills, as well as the ability to work effectively with diverse clientele, is essential.
