Fallingwater Collections Internship

Fallingwater, the architectural masterwork designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, seeks applications for its Judy Cheteyan Fallingwater Collections Internship. This full-time residency intern will document, protect, and inventory the fine art and design collection both within an onsite storage facility and the house museum environment.

Job Description:  Interns will be exposed to a variety of media including furniture, textiles, ceramics, glass, photography, and works on paper and will be trained to utilize the museum’s collection database software. Past intern projects have included entry of historic records into the collections database, assisting on gallery exhibition installation, and rehousing of collections items into archival containers. The intern works alongside other interns and under the supervision of the Director of Preservation.

Qualifications: Applicants must be a current or entering graduate student in museum studies, library science, or a related field with background experience in twentieth century art/design history, architectural history, or history.

Position Duration:  Twelve weeks, beginning no later than May 15, 2014. Interns will be expected to work during normal business hours (typically 8:30am to 5:00pm), forty hours per week. Fallingwater is open Memorial Day and Independence Day.

Location:  Fallingwater is located in rural Mill Run, Pennsylvania (zip code 15464), and is approximately ninety miles from the Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT).  Having a motor vehicle is strongly recommended as there are no stores or amenities within walking distance.

Pay:  This is an hourly paid internship that includes free, onsite shared housing. Interns are required to provide their own food, linens, laundry supplies, and incidentals.
