SITE DESCRIPTION: The Archives of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art is currently being established through a generous grant from the Getty Foundation as a part of its special initiative “On the Record: Art in L.A. 1945–1980”. The Archives will be the repository for LACMA’s institutional records of enduring value; collecting, preserving and making them accessible through the Balch Research Library. The Archives also includes a select number of collections relating to artists and others who have made important contributions to the Museum.
JOB TITLE: Archives Intern
JOB DESCRIPTION: Under the supervision of the archives staff, the archives intern will: 1) Perform high volume accessioning of LACMA’s institutional records, creating accession records in Archivists’ Toolkit and producing box inventories; 2) Assist in archival appraisal of unprocessed institutional records; 3) Arrange, describe, and undertake preservation actions for small archival collections, creating DACS compliant EAD finding aids. May require work in dirty environments and the proper use of protective equipment.

QUALIFICATIONS: Completion of American Archives and Manuscripts course (or institutional equivalent). Past course work in applied arts, art history, or history is a plus. Must be able to lift and carry 30 lbs.
SEMESTER(S): Spring 2014
HOURS: 12 hrs/week during regular library hours, 9:00am to 6:00pm M-F.
PAID/UNPAID: Unpaid
