WORK HOURS between 8am and 5pm, Monday to Friday. This is a temporary position beginning August 1, 2014 and ending on January 31, 2015.

Purpose

Provide collection management, reference, and library instruction for the School of Architecture students, faculty and other users.
Essential Functions

Oversee collection management and development of architecture and planning materials, both tangible and digital. Review approval plan items and initiate orders for new publications. Provide reference and instruction services primarily in Architecture and Planning Library. Provide liaison with faculty and students of the School of Architecture. Work closely with donors of architecture and planning materials. Promote use of digital materials. Supervise classified staff and GRA who process gift materials, special collections and work on other projects. Participate in Architecture and Planning Library management, Fine Arts and Humanities Subject Team, School of Architecture Library and Collections Committee, and other related digital curation groups. Work closely the Cataloging unit to set priorities, monitor progress on current projects and correct errors, work with Preservation and Digitization Services and Scholarly Communications Librarian on special projects and work with other library units or branches on other related projects that may occur. Work on continuing Alexander Architectural Archive digital projects.
Marginal/Incidental functions

Other related functions as assigned.
Required qualifications

ALA Master’s degree in library and information science. Demonstrated knowledge and reference experience in architecture and/or planning. Experience in teaching library instruction and/or subjects taught at the School of Architecture. Experience making public presentations. Demonstrated activity in digital humanities. Experience working with special collections and archives. Ability to work in a collaborative environment with faculty, staff, students and researchers. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications

Coursework relevant to architecture libraries and/or archives. Masters degree in architecture or related discipline. Publishing in architecture and/or planning scholarship. Membership in relevant professional organizations such as: Association of Architecture School Librarians, Art Libraries Society, and Society of American Archivists. Demonstrated ability to establish and meet goals. Professional initiative. Familiarity with at least one European language.

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
