JOB SUMMARY:
The Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba is seeking a Summer Program Assistant to assist the Art Educator in the promotion, preparation, delivery, and evaluation of the Children’s Art Program, which runs annually during the month of July. This position may lead to a Gallery Attendant position, which is an administratively supportive role in the Art Gallery.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
-Provide support and assistance to the Art Educator and Instructors in the promotion, preparation, delivery and evaluation of the AGSM’s 4-week summer Children’s Art Program
-Organize, order, receive, and prepare art supplies.
-Assist individual children in completing their art projects, especially those with special needs, disabilities, and EAL/ESL students with comprehension issues.
-Supervise children during lunch and breaks.
-Collect and sort feedback and documentation.
-Provide support to Gallery staff through, but not limited to, filing, preparing promotions, and basic administrative tasks.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
-Must be 30 or under and returning to University or College in the fall of 2015
-Studying Fine Arts, Education, or General Arts
-Understanding and appreciation of art
-Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (specifically Word, Excel)
-Experience working with children
-Professional and mature demeanor
-Excellent communication skills
-Sound judgment and work ethic
-Promptness and reliabilitySPECIAL SKILLS:
-Familiarity with cultural institutions
-Understanding of diverse cultural backgrounds
-Teaching experience an asset.We encourage First Nations/ Metis applications and those from Official Language Minority groups.
