Working closely with the Curator/Collections Manager, the student will be exposed to a range of duties, including: researching and writing justifications for new acquisitions, cataloguing books into the internal research library, updating location tags in Mimsy and curating a virtual exhibition on women in the Soviet Union from the Sovfoto Archive at the MacLaren.

The Lac La Biche Regional Museum and Discovery Centre is seeking a post-secondary student for a temporary summer position to work as a curatorial research and development officer. Working with Museum team members, the incumbent will conduct research, interview community members (both past and present) and collect artifacts; then participate in the design to enhance one of our most prestigious exhibits. This exhibit “Tells the Story” of Father McGrane and the Empress of France.
Duties:
The incumbent will undertake a major project under the supervision of the Museum Manager and work with the Archivist and other staff to expand and enhance our Father McGrane/Empress of France exhibit. Father McGrane was a Catholic Priest who resided in Lac La Biche from 1940 to 1959 and made many contributions to the community beyond his Parish. He established the first newspaper, the first movie theatre, introduced ham radio to the community but most renowned for establishing the Execter Sea Cadet Corp; leaving behind a legacy in a builder’s ship model used to train the Sea Cadets. The incumbent will be required to conduct research, interview former Sea Cadets and community members, gather artifacts, then compile the information and make recommendations for the putting the gathered information into an expanded exhibit.
