Located on an impressive 66-acre Sarasota bay front estate, it preserves the legacy of John and Mable Ringling, educating and enabling a large and diverse audience to experience and take delight in a world-renowned collection of fine art and special exhibitions; Ca d’Zan, the Ringling historic mansion; the Circus Museums; the Tibbals Learning Center; the Historic Asolo Theater; and historic architecture, courtyard, gardens and grounds overlooking the Sarasota Bay. An Education Building houses our library, conservation facility, classrooms, and staff offices. The Visitors Pavilion serves some 350,000 guests annually.
Responsibilities:
Works under the general supervision of the Head of Library Services and manages, updates, and maintains the library’s electronic catalog, using the procedures and practices of current metadata standards, including MARC Records, AACR2R, and Library of Congress Classification. Catalogs all library materials, including copy and original cataloging. Corrects existing bibliographic records as needed. Manages the technical services of the library.
Manages digital resources and digital projects for the library. Collaborates and coordinates digital efforts with other museum departments, maintaining the standards for the digitization and cataloging of library materials for The Museum System (TMS) and Online Computer Library Center (OCLC) applications. Serves as a library liaison with New College and the future C4 (local college consortium) in matters concerning digitization. Maintains authority records and performs needed authority work in the database.
Maintains and reports statistical information concerning cataloging activities. Acts as liaison to IT and Digital Asset Management committee.
Participates in developing, interpreting, and implementing policies and programs related to the growth and acquisition of library collections and access to information in all formats. Assists with the supervision, training, and direction of volunteers and interns.
Reference: Serves as an information specialist by Assisting staff, students, and other patrons with research needs and library instruction.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree and two years of experience related to the job duties. (Note: higher education may substitute at the equivalent rate.)
Experience maintaining an electronic catalogue and performing original and copy cataloging based on current standards.
Experience managing digital resources and projects.
Experience directing the work of volunteers or employees.
Preferred:
MLS/MLIS degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited university; a background in art/art history or previous work in a museum library.
Knowledge of foreign languages is an advantage.
Experience working with The Museum System (TMS) or a similar database to maintain bibliographic information at MARC, Library of Congress, and Getty standards.
Experience overseeing digitization projects.
Anticipated Salary Range:
$30,520/year + Florida State benefits available.
